Bio

I am the Director of Special Collections and University Archives at Rutgers University Libraries. Prior to this role I served as Head of Archival Collections and Services at the John Cotton Dana Library at Rutgers University - Newark where I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Institute of Jazz Studies—the largest and most comprehensive jazz research facility in the world—as well as the newly established Rutgers Newark Archives, a collection of materials documenting the history of Rutgers–Newark as an anchor institution in its host city. In addition to having oversight of all archival personnel, Prior to being at Rutgers I worked at the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music History from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia (2002), a Master's in Library and Information Science from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign (2005), and am very close to finishing a Master of Arts Degree in American Studies at Rutgers University - Newark (2021).

I have served on different capacities in professional organizations. Most recently I was an Editorial Board member for The American Archivist (2016-2020), Chair of the Special Collections Committee in the Music Library Association (2017-2019), Awards Chair in the Mid Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (2016-2019), Nominating Committee Chair in the Society of American Archivists (2011-2012), and Public Information Officer in the Midwest Archives Conference (2010-2014). I have also had the privilege of serving on federal grant review panels, both at the National Endowment for the Humanities (2014), and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (2010, 2012, and 2015).  I write about the unique challenges of managing, preserving, and providing access to music and performing arts materials in all formats. I am passionate about ensuring equitable and fair representation of society in the archival record, and dismantling the patriarchy, in all its sneaky ways.
