    The Military Archives Section WANTS YOU to join the Steering Committee (apologies to Uncle Sam)!  With a minimal monthly time commitment, you can develop your leadership skills and enhance your professional network of fellow archivists. The only requirement is that you are a member of SAA. 

    Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague for one of these positions:

    Vice-Chair/Chair Elect (2 year commitment, as Vice-Chair and Chair): Serves as acting chair in the absence of the chair; succeeds as chair if the current chair cannot complete the term of office; assists the Chair with coordinating online "coffee chats" with military archivists, and any programming, presentations, or workshops offered during the MARS annual meeting; will solicit and vet volunteers for MARS officer positions and coordinate elections; and performs other duties assigned by the chair. The Vice Chair/Chair-Elect shall assume the role of Chair in the second year of her/his/their term.

    Secretary (2 year commitment):  Shall be responsible for keeping minutes of the MARS annual meeting and Steering Committee meetings; serving as archivist for the MARS by collecting and maintaining all MARS records and collecting and maintaining the reports and minutes of the various MARS committees and working groups; will oversee and coordinate the work of all MARS working groups and committees, reporting on progress to the rest of the Steering Committee; and performing other duties as assigned by the MARS chair. At the end of his/her term, the secretary will be responsible for transferring all active records to his/her successor and all inactive records to the SAA Archivist.   

    Communication Liaison (2 year commitment): Shall be responsible for using various communication modes, such as the Section listserv and SAA publications to communicate with the Section membership about news and events, updates the MARS microsite as necessary, posts meeting minutes to the MARS microsite, serves on the Steering Committee, and coordinates with the Secretary on communication needs.
