SAA's Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Subcommittee is recruiting to fill two vacancies during the 2026 volunteer cycle. If you want to help your colleagues build their digital archives skills or have ideas about how to shape the DAS certificate and curriculum, we encourage you to apply as part of the SAA Leader Self-Nomination Form and explain in your interest statements what you would bring to the DAS Subcommittee. The SAA Appointments Committee and the DAS Subcommittee chair will read all self-nominations and make recommendations for appointments.

DAS Subcommittee purpose: A subcommittee of SAA's Committee on Education, the DAS Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing and updating courses, exams, core competencies, learning outcomes, and other aspects of the DAS curriculum. See the SAA Governance Manual and DAS microsite for more about the DAS Subcommittee's responsibilities and activities.

Member selection: The subcommittee welcomes a mix of practicing archivists with e-records/digital experience or knowledge, teaching experience, technical skills, and administrative or supervisory experience. All subcommittee members must be members of SAA. A DAS Certificate is preferred.

Member expectations: Subcommittee members serve a four-year term and attend monthly meetings and an annual retreat (all virtual; no travel or in-person meetings required). They assist in auditing and reviewing courses, and contribute to working groups and special projects, working in collaboration with other subcommittee members, course instructors, and SAA staff. Members typically spend an average of four to five hours per month on DAS Subcommittee work.

Member benefits: Subcommittee members have the opportunity to further develop their digital archives knowledge through their work on the subcommittee, network with other archives professionals, and also have the opportunity to grow into a leadership role as subcommittee vice chair, chair, and past chair. Outgoing subcommittee members will be granted a two-year grace period on their DAS Certificate to allow adequate time for the necessary requirements to maintain and renew their certificate.

How to apply: Complete the SAA Leader Self-Nomination Form at https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/76215-Society-Of-American-Archivists. Please list your DAS certificate status and explain in your interest statements what you would bring to the DAS Subcommittee.

Timeline: Self-nominations are due December 15. Appointment decisions will be made in spring 2026 for terms beginning in August 2026.

If you have questions about the DAS program or the DAS Subcommittee, please feel free to contact a member of the current leadership team:
