Register for the C2C Care Webinar How to Manage Volunteers in Collections August 9, 2023 at 1pm ET

This webinar is free, but registration is required.

Volunteers are an integral part of a small and mid-sized cultural institutions workforce and can be found across departments. In this webinar we will provide an overview of collections volunteers – how to create a volunteer program or align an existing program with best practices. The presentation will highlight:

    • The framework every volunteer program should have
    • How to recruit, retain and recognize volunteers
    • Basics of volunteer management, and why supervising volunteers is different than supervising staff
    • Principles of diversity, equity, accessibility and inclusion in volunteer programs
    • Special considerations unique to collections, conservation, registration, archives and library volunteers, including issues of risk management, liability and confidentiality
    • How to avoid (or cope with) a bad volunteer situation
    • Helpful, accessible, and affordable resources for museums with limited staff and budgets

Presenter: Jenny Woods, Past President of the American Association for Museum Volunteers

    New C2C Care Course Announcement! Writing a Long-Range Preservation Plan August 23-September 13, 2023

A Long-Range Preservation Plan (LRPP) is a core document that both identifies priorities for conservation and preservation projects and outlines a course of action for their completion. The LRPP is a powerful tool for communicating goals and progress with an institution's board or parent organization, for galvanizing support from administration and staff, and for obtaining grant funding for specific projects. Geared toward small and mid-sized cultural institutions, in this course participants will learn the essential components of a LRPP, become familiar with key preventive conservation concepts, and gain skills in both risk assessment and the prioritization of preservation needs. Through in-class assignments and a recommended 4-6 hours/week of independent work time between sessions, participants will conclude this course with a draft LRPP for their organization.

Course Instructor: Nicole Grabow, Director of Preventive Conservation, Midwest Art Conservation Center (MACC)

Early Bird Registration $99 (Before August 9, 2023)
