Dear colleagues,
Please join the New England Archivists on Wednesday April 30th at 1:00pm ET for a 2-hour virtual workshop, "Managing Student Employees", with archivists Camila Zorilla Tessler and Monika Lehman of Yale University. Registration is open to NEA members and non-members alike.
Managing Student Employees
Wednesday, April 30, 2025
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm ET
Virtual Workshop
Often an archivists' first foray into supervision is hiring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students as student employees. In the instructors' experience, there's often little to no training in how to manage student employees. This workshop will provide guidance for anyone new to supervising students and navigating the unique challenges they can present to managers. Instructors will review the full cycle of hiring – from tips on job postings, interviews, orientation, work expectations, and letting students work on their own and feel empowered when they are stuck. This training will benefit anyone who currently supervises students or who may need to hire or supervise students in the future. It will include both instruction as well as ample time for discussion about student employment issues and instructor-led community feedback.
