Stephen Logsdon, "Aeon and AtoM: a user-centered approach for public access and use of archival collections"
-
The Becker Archives has been using an Aeon-integrated AtoM installation for four years in order to provide our researchers the most efficient way to schedule appointments and order scans of materials in our collection. Because these requests for in-person visits and digitization service come directly from our collection management system (AtoM), the archives staff receive the corresponding DACS record with each request, as well as all the relevant scheduling, digitization specifications, and contact information from the researcher. I'll show you how the process works, and I'll highlight the additional perks of using this user-friendly workflow.
-
Carolyn Tanski and Kate Bowers, "Controlling your inventory control system: how (and why) we specified and implemented a custom inventory control system"
-
A quarter of a million boxes. Over 7000 shelf locations. More than a million lines of audit trail covering every retrieval, reshelving, and re-homing of every box for the last 30 years. And now--system migration. Are you scared? Nah! Once you prove that current systems cannot handle your data, workflows, and information needs, you get to leave your old headaches behind and design a new system that has everything! But what, exactly, do you really need? Or really, really, really want? This presentation will delve into the specifications and design of an Inventory Control System for archives that uses the QuickBase platform, with the whys and wherefores and a few remaining wishes and what-ifs.
