The Library of Congress is hosting a half-day symposium on the U.K. Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the U.S. NEH-funded project “From Lima to Canton and Beyond: An AI-aided Heritage Materials Research Platform for Studying Globalization through Art.” This international project used scientific analysis to study works of art from numerous institutions in the U.K. and the United States. What started as a project aimed at differentiating between similar paintings generated in Canton, China and Lima, Peru, resulted in a major effort to map the global distribution of artists' materials and methods in these and similar works. The project's large scale necessitated the development of new research tools and more efficient ways of working. Four speakers from the ISAAC Research Centre, Nottingham Trent University will be presenting, please see schedule below.
10am: Introduction. Dr. Fenella France, Library of Congress, PRTD.
10:15am: From Studying Watercolours to Developing a Heritage Materials Research Platform. Professor Haida Liang
11am: A Novel Workflow for Analysing Spectral Imaging Datasets Using Machine-Learning Methods. Dr Sotiria Kogou
