Welcome! Francesca Marini, E2 Chair 2022-2023, Texas A&M University

E2 Chair 2023-2024: Michelle Chiles, Providence College

E2's new model: low intensity support group, Jill Severn, University of Georgia

    1. Living with the Lifecycle of Exhibition Programs and Spaces (presentations + Q&A)

Three 10-15 minute presentations with up to 30 minutes for Q&A (1 hr 15 minutes). Introduction: Jessica Lacher-Feldman, University of Rochester

"Customize and Outsource Exhibits: Not as Easy as You Think"

In the summer of 2019, UNMC's McGoogan Health Sciences Library closed for renovation. At the same time, new construction of the Wigton Heritage Center, a museum dedicated to the history of UNMC and the health sciences in Nebraska, began. The team worked with an outside design firm on all the typical exhibition creation needs and then along came a pandemic, and a few other "glitches" along the way. In 2021, Phase 1a opened, and Phases 1b and 2 followed in 2022-2023. We will share the good, bad, and unfortunate lessons learned from our experience of building a museum-remotely-with multiple designers and stakeholders.

Carrie Meyer (Head, Robert S. Wigton Department of Special Collections & Archives) and Darby Kurtz (Archivist and Public Historian), University of Nebraska Medical Center

    "Making Smarter Choices"

Opened in 2012, the UGA Special Collections Libraries is now more than ten years old. Due to normal wear-and-tear and the end-of-life of equipment, the galleries and technology are in need of an overhaul to better meet the needs of users and staff. In 2019, Jan Hebbard formed the SCL Technology Work Group to address our aging gallery screens but post-pandemic, the group has moved into a broader re-examination of our gallery spaces, touchscreens, and lighting systems.

Kaylynn Stooksbury (Outreach Archivist) and Jan Hebbard (Exhibitions Coordinator), University of Georgia

"We Hold These Truths To Be Self Evident … That Some Exhibitions Are Endowed By Their Creator With Certain Inalienable Rights"

The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library was built in 2004-and for the past nearly 20 years, one permanent exhibition has been in place in one of our four exhibition galleries. We'll explore the challenges of maintaining a conservation-minded approach to display and environment against a donor-mandated exhibit of a collection of rare, American Revolution-era materials.

Holly Robertson (Curator of Exhibitions) and Sue Donovan (Conservator of Special Collections), University of Virginia

    1. Survey + Temperature Check + Discussion

Moderators: Holly Robertson, Jill Severn, Jessica Lacher-Feldman (30 minutes)
