    Dear Colleagues -

In April, the US Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) issued an opinion that the Presidential Records Act is unconstitutional. SAA issued a statement about this noting that this "opinion threatens both Congress's check-and-balance prerogatives and government transparency." Since that time, two cases challenging the opinion have been filed by the American Historical Association, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, and American Oversight. On May 13, a judge is hosting a consolidated hearing about the two cases. For those interested in an in-depth analysis of the cases and the constitutional arguments of the OLC, read Jonathan Shaub's post on Lawfare.
