    Hello,

This is a reminder that we have three open positions on the Issues & Advocacy Steering Committee, and nominations (and self-nominations) are only open until the end of the month! Which is just a week away!

SAA's Issues & Advocacy Section is seeking nominations to fill vacancies in the I&A Steering Committee starting August 2025. We value a diverse Steering Committee and encourage applicants with varying backgrounds and professional experiences to apply; students and new professionals should feel welcome to run for these leadership roles! Nominate yourself or your colleagues!

    POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
    (1) Vice Chair/Chair-Elect (two year term: first year as Vice Chair and second year as Chair)
    (2) Steering Committee Members (two year term; two positions available)

    POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:
    (1) Vice Chair/Chair-Elect
The Chair and the Vice-Chair serve as joint officers of the section. Only individual members of SAA and the Issues and Advocacy Section may hold these positions. The Chair and the Vice-Chair direct and report the activities of the section, organize and conduct the annual meeting of the section, chair the Steering Committee, act as liaisons for the section to other bodies, appoint section committees as needed, and handle administrative matters, including, but not limited to, annual reports to the SAA. As officers, the Chair and the Vice-Chair serve terms that total two years. Upon completion of his/her term as Vice-Chair, that officer succeeds to the office of Chair for the next term. (Must be current members of SAA and the I&A Section.)

    (2) Steering Committee Members
The Steering Committee comprises six members, including the Chair and Vice-Chair. The Steering Committee directs and coordinates the activities of the section and approves appointments made by the Chair and the Vice-Chair if vacancies occur. Committee members establish projects to work on through the year, keep the micro-site updated, help to plan the annual business meeting, and endorse SAA program sessions presented to the section. Steering committee members may hold their position for two consecutive terms of two years (four years total), and then may not be re-elected for a minimum of two years.  Steering committee members who wish to run for Vice-Chair may do so at the end of their first year or wait for two years following the end of their first term to run. (Must be current members of SAA and the I&A Section.)

If you are interested in current archival issues and advocacy, please nominate yourself or someone else before May 30!

    Looking forward,
    Holly McGee
