Last Call for Research Participants - Archives & Disaster Education

  • 1.  Last Call for Research Participants - Archives & Disaster Education

    Posted Aug 04, 2025 04:55 PM
The "Climate Ready, Set, Go! Investigating the Role of Archival Instruction in K-12 Disaster Education" data collecting period will end soon. This is the last call for participants to sign up for ONLINE focus group interviews set for this month (AUGUST). Specifically, I am seeking participation from teaching, instruction, or outreach archivists working in the state of Washington.

NOTE: This study does focus on K-12 student populations and learning, BUT this does not mean archival participants need direct experience with this age group or with archival instruction. Rather I am seeking archival participants with an INTEREST in working with younger students and on topics like disasters, environmental change, or the Climate Crisis through the use of archives.

INCENTIVE: The first 10 participants will be given a $10 visa gift card.

If you or a friend would like to participate, fill out this questionnaire: bit.ly/ArchivesDisasters2025-A

Or as you are able, I would appreciate you sharing this call with your network. If you have any further questions, please let me know. Thank you.

For more information, see longer message below.

Research Study Title: Climate Ready, Set, Go! Investigating the Role of Archival Instruction in K-12 Disaster Education
    Principal Researcher: Itza Carbajal  <itzac@uw.edu>

    Dear Potential Participant,

Please allow me a moment of your time to ask for your assistance with an ongoing research study titled," My name is Itza Carbajal and I am a PhD candidate at the Information School at the University of Washington. My research focuses on the materialized memories of young people, the role of archival institutions in educating young learners, and how this can contribute to urgent educational topics like disasters brought forth by Climate Change.

I am writing to request your support or participation in my research study about the use of archives in K-12 teaching and learning with a focus on disaster education. Specifically, I am seeking participants that identify as archivists as this group represents one of my key populations of interests.

As an archivist, I seek your perspectives on how your current or future K-12 education can or does use archives (defined below) when teaching about the Climate Crisis, disasters, or other environmental changes.

This email requests participation for focus group interviews scheduled for June, August, and September of 2025. Please fill out the appropriate questionnaire to register your interest:
