We are looking for a currently enrolled graduate student to join our team for a part time position with the Austin PBS Archive. A successful candidate could work anywhere between 15-30 hours per week and attend an ALA-accredited institution.
The ideal candidate will have experience with archives work or is looking to gain practical experience within the realm of archiving. The archive assistant will work directly with the Director of Archives to continue preserving the legacy of Austin PBS.
Responsibilities
- Assist the archives team with digitization of media including photographs, audio files, and video files
- Arrange unprocessed collections and create accompanying finding aids
- Assist staff with archive-related questions and execute research requests
- Staff the archive for special projects and/or special events
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Archives
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited graduate program
- Familiarity with different file formats used in media archival, including audio/video/photo/metadata
- Familiarity with data organization (making good spreadsheets counts!)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- A desire to preserve history
- Excitement to meet new people and answer a variety questions
- Ability to carry and open a standard bankers box for accessing archival materials
Desired Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)
- Background with working with various metadata schemas such as Dublin Core
- Strong desire to learn under the leadership of a qualified archivist
- Prior experience with digitizing using large and small format scanners
This is a temporary, part time position that pays $25/hour.
This position requires in-person work (Austin, TX).
