    Salary

    $23.07 - $36.91 Hourly

    $47,989 - $76,782 Annually

    The New Mexico State Records Center and Archives (SRCA) and its staff protect and preserve New Mexico's public records and records that in turn protect and preserve the rights of its citizens and contribute to an efficient and open State government by providing a records management system for the State's public records, by filing and maintaining the State's rules, and by providing or advocating access to the State's public and historical records.

    Why does the job exist?

    This position exists to support the management and preservation of historical and legal records, ensuring their accessibility for the public, researchers, and government entities. The Archivist III is responsible for maintaining the integrity, organization, and accessibility of records, ensuring proper accounting and preservation. Key responsibilities include accessioning, processing, preservation, arrangement, description, reference assistance, inventory, and outreach. The Archivist III will collaborate with division colleagues on high-priority projects, collections, and exhibits, while also having the flexibility to engage in projects of personal or professional interest. Division priorities include the reprocessing of public and private collections and selective digitization of materials for inclusion in a publicly accessible database.

    How does it get done?

    Duties for this position include:
    - Assist researchers, locate records using databases, and respond to inquiries within a two-week window
    - Conduct in-depth research and refer inquiries to appropriate divisions
    - Review control files, arrange and describe collections, and appraise materials for disposal
    - Digitize analog materials, enter metadata into ArchivesSpace, and ensure preservation of materials
    - Develop workshops, exhibits, and presentations, and coordinate events like Archives Month
    - Assist with annual inventory, track progress of requests, and document archival activities supporting strategic goals

    This position serves State Records Center & Archives leadership, Researchers to include local, state and federal government agencies, and the general public.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate will possess:
    - Ability to read/translate Spanish text
    - Knowledge of archival best practices and New Mexico history 
    - Strong customer service and organizational skills 
    - Capacity to manage competing priorities effectively 
    - Experience in managing digital records 
    - Understanding of rights management and copyright 
    - Ability to occasionally lift and move storage boxes

    Minimum Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Archival Administration and Public History, History, Archaeology, Anthropology, or Library Sciences and two (2) years work experience in archiving and/or record keeping. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
