    The Center for Humanities & History of Modern Biology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory offers a variety of fellowships and internships to high school students, graduate students and scholars as well as those who is interested in getting an experience of working at the scientific library and archives or in our extensive CSHL archives collections. Please check our programs here: 

     

    Sydney Brenner Research Fellowship: Awards up to $5,000 to support research and publication (or other exhibition/dissemination) of ambitious, original work in the history of the life sciences. A portion of the research should be at CSHL Archives. Open to scholars (at any career stage), journalists, writers, filmmakers, and creative artists. Application deadline: March 31 of each year.

     

    Research Travel Grant: Awards up to $1,000 in travel and lodging expenses for onsite use of the CSHL Archives. Applications may be submitted at any time, they will be considered on an ongoing basis.

     

    Celia & Wally Gilbert Artist-in-Residence Program: Provides campus room and board, an honorarium of up to $1,500, and collaborative support for a 1-3 week residence. Applications may be submitted at any time, they will be considered on an ongoing basis.

     

    Ellen Brenner Memorial Fellowship: Two fellowships with stipends of up to $2000 (part-time for 8 weeks or full-time for 4 weeks) will be awarded each year. We invite applications from scientists, medical professionals, library-science college students and graduates, and others- anyone who is exploring a career path that might encompass work as research librarians, science informationists, and/or archivists. Experience librarians and archivists at CSHL will serve as mentors to the Brenner Fellows.

     

    Ellen Brenner Memorial Internship:  Offers a stipend to Long Island high school students, who are interested in science and history, to work on a mentored summer project at the CSHL Library and Archives. Two Brenner Internships will be awarded each year, with a stipend of up to $1600. Application deadline: June 1 of each year.
