Descriptive Notes, the blog of the SAA Description Section, is issuing a call for its next series on Project Management related to archival description.
Description, as a function of archives, can require project management skills to complete - whether that's managing a team processing a collection, or determining where description fits inside a workflow. Are you a lone arranger who has to fit in descriptive projects and practices in between your other duties? Do you work in a large repository where description of an archival collection is divided among multiple colleagues? Do you supervise interns who need guidance on descriptive practices related to your institution? Are you a digital content manager who has different descriptive needs than your colleagues working with physical materials? How do you manage these different projects? What project management methodologies and tools do you employ to get the job done? Descriptive Notes wants to hear from you!
For our Project Management series, please pitch us a short description of your submission idea by March 1. We also always welcome posts on a rolling basis for our existing series (such as Inclusive Description, Born-Digital Description, and Archival Labor) as well as any other articles, announcements and updates, shared resources, and visual content relating to issues of archival description. We would like to hear from you about your case studies, projects, collaborations, and any conversations that would be of interest to readers.
Send all pitches to SAAdescription@gmail.com. You can view previous posts here: saadescription.wordpress.com.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to your submissions!
