Call for Nominations! The Native American Archives Section is accepting nominations until Tuesday, May 27, 2025
The Native American Archives Section (NAAS) of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) is seeking nominations for the following leadership positions: (1) Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, (1) Steering Committee member, and (1) Secretary.
All are welcome to apply, including students and early-career archivists. If you work with Native American archival materials-or are interested in learning more about the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials-this is a great opportunity to get involved and help shape the future of the profession.
We especially encourage Tribal and Indigenous archivists, as well as archivists working with Native American and Indigenous collections, to apply.

The Vice Chair/Chair-Elect serves a two-year term: the first year as Vice Chair/Chair-Elect and the second year as Chair. The Vice Chair/Chair-Elect assists the Chair with section business and assumes the Chair's duties if the Chair is absent. After one year, the Vice Chair/Chair-Elect automatically becomes Chair. The Chair presides over section meetings, directs section activities, appoints liaisons, and submits a final annual report to the SAA Council after their term. After serving as Chair, the outgoing Chair serves a third year on the Steering Committee as Immediate Past Chair, overseeing elections and nominations.

A Steering Committee Member-at-Large serves a two-year term, participates in Steering Committee meetings, and provides input and general support for section activities. At the start of their term, members may also volunteer for additional roles, such as Editor of the Case Study series, social media manager, or other initiatives.
-
The Secretary serves a one-year term, participates in Steering Committee meetings, and provides support for section documentation, including maintaining and archiving meeting minutes. The Secretary also takes a leadership role in outreach efforts by overseeing email communications, documenting meeting notes, and managing the section's social media and website content.
This is a pivotal moment for NAAS in celebration of its 20th anniversary. We invite you to join us if you are passionate about advocating for Indigenous archival initiatives and helping to shape the future of the profession.
We welcome and encourage self-nominations. Please send your nominations via this GOOGLE FORM by May 27, 2025.
Please note that SAA membership is a requirement for section leadership. If you are interested in joining NAAS but are unable to join SAA due to financial reasons or have any other questions about this process, please contact NAAS Chair Vina Begay at Vina.Begay@asu.edu or Past Chair Melissa Stoner: melissa.s.stoner@berkeley.edu.
