DESCRIPTION
Following our annual business meeting, we will have a presentation from Maggie Schreiner of Librarians and Archivists with Palestine (LAP). Founded in 2013, LAP is a network of self-defined librarians, archivists, and information workers in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for self-determination. She will review LAP's recently published report that brings focus on libraries, archives, and museums as sites of knowledge, community spaces, and repositories of cultural heritage. She will also discuss the repercussions of cultural heritage destruction in Gaza on Palestinian cultural and collective identity and the solidarity work of librarians and archivists worldwide over the past nine months. The presentation will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about LAP, challenges faced by librarians and archivists in Palestine, and how to become involved. Learn more about their work here: https://librarianswithpalestine.org/. Maggie Schreiner, the report's lead author, is a PhD candidate in History at the CUNY Graduate Center, and a faculty member in NYU's Archives and Public History program.
