DESCRIPTION
Join Us for the Annual PLASC Section Meeting, featuring Vina Begay of Arizona State University Library presenting:
Applications of the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials (PNAAM) within Public Library Infrastructures.
Public libraries, like academic libraries, play comparable roles and responsibilities in delivering culturally responsive services and making ethical decisions regarding Indigenous cultural information and histories. Although the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials (PNAAM) offer important guidance for the stewardship of Indigenous archival materials in academic settings, this presentation explores how PNAAM applications in public libraries can help foster culturally safe spaces for Indigenous communities. It will highlight Indigenous librarianship practices, including culturally responsive literary representation, critical analysis of Indigenous-focused texts, and community-based archiving of local Indigenous histories.
