Write for Descriptive Notes in 2024!

Descriptive Notes is the blog of SAA's Description Section, featuring discussions relating to issues of archival description. The editorial team would like to hear from you about your case studies, projects, collaborations, and any conversations that would be of interest to readers.

Some of our recurring series include:

History and Heritage Months celebrate and bring awareness to the diversity of the history documented in our archival collections. We invite colleagues to submit articles related to descriptive projects that relate to the themes of Black History Month (February), Women's History Month (March), and Deaf History Month (March-April), as well as other heritage months throughout the year.

Student Voices features posts by graduate or undergraduate student archival workers. It provides a forum to discuss descriptive challenges, highlight interesting projects, and examine the relationship between archival education and practice. We recently launched this series with a post from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Special Collections.

Conference Dispatches is where SAA members can share reports and recaps on conference happenings and professional gatherings related to archival description. As either attendee or presenter, we'd love to hear your takeaways!
