    The Georgia Tech Library invites early career librarians and archivists from diverse backgrounds to apply for our diversity residency position The position is designed to provide an early-career librarian and/or archivist with an opportunity for rapid professional growth while bringing new perspectives and fresh ideas to the Georgia Tech Library and will last up to two years. The first year of the program will be dedicated to orientation to the profession of academic librarianship and/or archival work through experience in units within the library. These units include Public Services, Community Engagement and Scholarly Outreach, Archives and Special Collections, IT, Technical Services, and Administration. The Resident will be assigned a mentor and home unit based on their career interests to serve as a base while they explore all included units within the library. 

    During the final stage of the program, the Resident will specialize in their chosen area(s). They will work on a capstone project suited to their professional interests and to the needs of the library. A goal of this project is for the Resident, working independently and with a mentor, to develop, complete, and report research or creative work at a conference and/or as a publication. The Resident will serve on Library committees and project teams and participate in professional organizations. The Resident will benefit from formal and informal mentorship, funding and encouragement of professional development, and a focus on career planning.  

    The focus of this residency is to highlight and increase the diversity of entry-level candidates for faculty positions at major research libraries. Please note that this is a limited-term, non-tenure track faculty appointment with no guarantee of permanent placement at the Georgia Tech Library at the conclusion of the residency.  


     

    Job Duties/Responsibilities  

    1. Under the guidance of the residency coordinator and the Georgia Tech Library faculty, contribute to the ongoing work of the Georgia Tech Library through outreach, instructional design, administration, archival services, access/public services, and technical services. This includes project deliverables wherever applicable. 

    2. Develop capstone project in preferred academic library career track, including planning, implementation, marketing, and assessment phases. 

    1. Develop the necessary competencies for faculty librarianship and archival work in an institution with a strong STEM focus. 

    2. Actively participate in and contribute to outreach, marketing, assessment, curricular, and other Library and Institute initiatives.  

    3. Actively participate in professional and scholarly activities, including Institute and professional committees, research, and publication. 

    4. Develop, complete, and report research or creative work in an area of specialization at a professional conference or in a professional journal during the final year of the residency program.  

    Benefits of Participation

    • Acquire faculty experience as a librarian or archivist in an academic library with library/archives, research, and service responsibilities.

    Required Qualifications 

    • An appropriate terminal degree, typically from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited master's degree in library and information science, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or a master's or doctoral degree in the appropriate area of specialization. 

    • Relevant coursework and/or job experience 

    • 0-5 years post-graduation from relevant graduate program 

    • No prior library faculty experience 

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Evidence of engagement with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, programs, and/or scholarship.  

    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 

    Compensation 

    This is a benefits-eligible position with a projected salary of $55,000. 

     

    Faculty status  

    This is a one-year, entry-level Faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% excellence in assigned duties, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. The reappointment for the second year is expected upon the successful completion of the first-year program. 


    The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, teleworking, professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. The library is a 24/7 institution; as such, some nights and weekends may be necessary.
