During its November 2025 meeting, SAA Council voted to make several changes to the format of SAA’s Annual Meeting over the course of the next few years. These changes are:
- The SAA Annual Meeting will be held in-person only from 2027 through 2030. This will not impact the 2026 hybrid meeting.
- Selected educational sessions during the in-person conferences will be recorded from 2027 to 2030. These recordings will be made available after the Annual Meeting.
- For the 2026 meeting, the Program Committee has been asked to work with the Council to determine a process to return some of the in-person component groups.
- Time and space will be allocated during 2027 through 2030 for in-person forums and selected component group meetings.
These changes are part of the Council’s ongoing charge to evaluate the fiscal impact of operations in the Society, as well as to take into consideration the growing costs of hosting the Annual Meeting. While we know some will be disappointed with these changes, SAA continues to be committed to providing the best experience it can offer. We are especially excited to be bringing back some in-person component group meetings and in-person forums.
Stay tuned for updates as more details are put into place. For any questions, please reach out to conference@archivists.org.
