Good day, SAA IAAS colleagues and all SAA members!
I am thrilled to announce the first of four Archival Landscapes Seminars.
As you might recall, our section's Archival Landscapes virtual seminar series began in 2020. In each seminar, an international guest speaker introduces participants to the issues and advancements in their local context, describing the history, operating environment and unique aspects of archival practice in their country. Past seminars can be viewed here:

For this cycle's inaugural seminar, we are excited to welcome Mr. Henri Zuber. He and I will be in conversation on 16 January 2025, 12-1p EST.
Henri Zuber was born in 1958. He has been an archivist since 1984.
After completing his studies at the Ecole des Chartes, he worked as conservateur at the direction des Archives de France (1984-1987) and at the Archives of Foreign Affairs (1987-1990). He then created and headed the Archives service of RATP, the Parisian transport authority (1990-1997 and 2000-2004). He was also in charge of the reading rooms at the Archives nationales, Paris (1997-2000), as well as head of the Archives of the Ministry of Justice (2004-2006). From 2006 to 2014 he was head of the Archives and Documentation service of SNCF, the French state-owned railway company. His next position, from 2014 to 2021, was deputy head of the French military archives, the Service historique de la Défense, which holds 450 linear km in ten locations. He completed his career at the Prédecture de police of Paris where he headed the Heritage (museum and archives) department. Since retiring in late 2023, he has been the president of the French Protestantism Historical Society.
He has been a member of the French professional association, l'Association des archivistes français (AAF) for 4 decades. He presided the Section for business archives (2001-2004), before being elected as president of AAF for the period 2004- 2007.
Shortly in charge of organizing the 1988 Congress in Paris, he has been engaged in ICA activities since the beginning of his career. His full involvement dates back to 2001, when he started representing the AAF on the Steering committee of the Section for Professional associations (SPA). From 2009 to 2012, he was SPA president and Vice president Associations. He was Vice-president for the Programme from 2012 to 2016 and assumed the Vice presidency for Finance from 2016 to 2022.
Given Mr. Zuber's rich archives background in military, business, and religious sectors, I hope SAA members from those sections will be able to join us; please help us spread the word!
I will send another message closer to the date with registration information and our Zoom link.
Thank you for penciling this event in your calendar and we look forward to your attendance!
Sincerely,
Karen
