  • 1.  Rooted in Memory II

    Posted 2 days ago

    Hello all,

Apologies for any cross-posting - I'm sharing this broadly and would appreciate your help passing it along to communities who may be interested.

I'm writing to share an upcoming community archival workshop series hosted by The Radical Archive Project (T.R.A.P.).

Rooted in Memory II is a bi-monthly, virtual series of guided conversations with archivists and memory workers, centered on care-based, community-engaged archival practice. The series is designed to feel less like a formal lecture and more like a thoughtful exchange among colleagues and friends - while still offering practical insight and shared resources.

    Each session will be:

    • held Virtually

    • open to the public

    • recorded

    • and archived as a resource for continued access, particularly for underserved communities

    About the Series

Rooted in Memory II builds on an earlier iteration that explored multiple ways people preserve memory, including genealogy, embodied memory mapping, writing and publishing, and formal archiving.

This second series focuses more directly on how we sustain community archiving work, especially in the current political climate, and how institutional and independent archivists can share tools, care, and infrastructure.

Sessions will take place on the third Thursday of every other month, from 1:00–2:00 PM EST, beginning February 2026.

    2026 Session Schedule

    • February 19, 2026 - Conditions of Access

    • April 16, 2026 - Radical Metadata

    • June 18, 2026 - Archiving vs. Caretaking

    • August 20, 2026 - Digital Archiving on a Budget

    • October 15, 2026 - Archival Triage

    • December 17, 2026 - Archival Labor & Burnout

Each session is facilitated by archivists and memory workers engaged in community-centered and performance-based archival practice.

I'm especially excited to be in conversation with a group of archivists and memory workers I deeply respect, including Holly Smith, Jessica Salow, Audra Eagle Yun, Krystal Tribbett, Stephanie S. Santiago Diaz, Sharon Mizota, Mario Ramirez, and others.

    Participation & Access

Sessions are open to anyone interested in community archiving, memory work, and care-based archival practice. Recordings and shared materials will live on a public Padlet, allowing people to engage live or return to the conversations later.
