Supporting Students through Exhibits: Creating Thought Provoking Exhibits in Difficult Times

    Thursday, May 28, 2026
    3pm Eastern/ 2pm Central/ 1pm Mountain/ 12pm Pacific / 11am Alaska/ 9am Hawaii

How do we create exhibits that engage provocative or sensitive themes with clarity and care amidst the current politically charged milieu? In these times, how can exhibits speak truth to power?

Join archivist Ruth Cody and curator Sarah Scarr for a discussion of their experiences with creating Voices of Change: Student Advocacy and Action from the Archives, an exhibition at Virginia Commonwealth University Special Collections and Archives.  They will address their approach to choosing and representing sensitive topics in a politically charged climate and how this work uplifts students and the wider university community. Following the presentation the presenters will participate in a discussion with attendees about this challenging and central issue in outreach work.

    About E2 Hours
E2 is pleased to continue the E2 Hour Program series for 2025-2026. We designed E2 Hours to help us build community with each other around topics of common interest and concern. The vibe for these gatherings is low-key, informal, and collegial-one where everyone is welcome and ideas and experiences circulate freely. We want the presentations to be followed by open-ended conversations with the presenters and among attendees.

If you're interested in presenting at a future E2 Hour or giving a tour of your exhibition or repository, contact Gwyn Hervochon gwynhervochon@boisestate.edu or Amy Schindler amycschindler@gmail.com to volunteer and discuss further.
