Mr. Lam completed his Bachelor in German Studies in Hong Kong and Leipzig, Germany. He gained his master's degrees in Library Studies, Museum Studies, Archives and Records Management and Rare Books and Manuscripts Studies in Hong Kong, Sydney, Dundee and London respectively. He is member of Academy of Certified Archivists and Chartered Librarian with CILIP in the UK.

He started working as a professional Archivist at the Legislative Council of the HKSAR Government, followed by Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation as Corporate Archivist and Archives Manager Asia-Pacific. He has been working in the library and archives profession since 2003, all began at the British Council in Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Lam will address the question: 'What do you archive in Hong Kong?' Mr. Lam stated, "Hong Kong, in many ways, is very advance and forward thinking, including technologies, healthcare, and infrastructure. However, many things are still very conservative and backwards, LGBT rights, archives law, and access to information.

This seminar presents the current development and challenges that the archives profession in Hong Kong encounters, including public education, professional development, lacking of general concepts about archives, and the commercialisation of archives in the industry. 'What do we archive in Hong Kong' questions what and for whom we collect, and where record management stands? or we are just 'to archive' for the sake of collecting?"

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you on 19 May beginning at 10a EDT!

    Sincerely,
    Karen
    Senior Co-Chair IAAS
