The Description Section Steering Committee is delighted to announce the Section's Annual Business Meeting. The meeting will be held Friday, May 22, from 2 PM-3:30 PM EDT.
Held virtually, the meeting will include reflections from the Steering Committee on our past year and plans for the year ahead. We'll also hear updates from colleagues from SAA Council, TS-DACS, TS-EAS, and SNAC.
We will also be hosting a panel discussion building on themes developed in a series of posts written for Descriptive Notes dedicated to audiovisual description. Among the presentations will be talks on developing form/genre terms salient to audiovisual material; working through the "many-to-one" challenge that audiovisual material poses to archival arrangement; and a report on a program developing strategic uses of AI to aid in the description of archival AV. The panelists include Jamie Marie Wagner (CU Boulder); Bodeene Amyot Cairdeas and Layne Carpenter (James Madison University); and Owen King, Caroline Mango, Raananah Sarid-Segal, and Miranda Villesvik (GBH Media Library and Archives).
