    The SAA Oral History Section invites you to join us Thursday, April 24, 2024 at 2-3pm EST for a community chat titled, "Student Involvement in Oral History Projects." Two speakers from the University of the Pacific will share their experiences executing on all phases of the oral history lifecycle. Special Collections Archivist Gillian Goldberg and undergraduate history student Elisa Villalpando discuss their work on the Cluster College History Project, which enables access to archival materials and oral history interviews documenting three colleges within the University of the Pacific. A Q&A will follow Goldberg's and Villalpando's talks. Come hear our speakers and share your own experiences working with students!

    Speaker bios:

    Gillian Goldberg (they/them) serves as Special Collections Archivist and Academic Support Librarian at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, a role they have held since June 2023. They graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with their MSLIS in 2023, and from Smith College with their BA in Theatre & English with a Concentration in Book Studies in 2020. At UoP, they have assisted the Head of Special Collections in the supervision of 5+ students each semester, including guiding them on oral history transcription projects, with one student role per semester dedicated to conducting oral histories as well. 

    Elisa Villalpando (she/her) is a second-year history major at the University of the Pacific. She began working on the Cluster College History Project in April 2024 and has since conducted seven oral histories and transcribed thirteen. Post-undergrad, she hopes to pursue a master's in archival or museum studies.
