    The SAA Oral History Section invites you to a community chat on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 1-2 pm ET about the institutional contexts in which archivists and oral historians conduct, preserve, and/or provide access to oral history collections. What are the constraints and expectations that they navigate, both internally and externally, in the course of carrying out their responsibilities? Speakers will discuss the challenges and opportunities of stewarding their holdings within the organizational environments in which they work.

    Speakers:

    • Sarah Dziedzic, Oral Historian at the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation, will discuss the Helen Frankenthaler Oral History Project. Dziedzic will describe how she finds the throughline between oral history and archives as she both conducts new oral histories and processes legacy interviews for eventual public access.
    • Zoe Heinsohn, Assistant Archivist at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), will discuss the DMA's Staff Oral History Project, which focuses on documenting institutional knowledge. Heinsohn will describe the complications arising from employees of an institution interviewing and being interviewed by colleagues.
    • Ryan Leimkuehler, University Archivist, and Andrew Rea, Digital Resources Archivist, will discuss how they are building Kansas State University's Oral Histories Program from scratch in the midst of a shifting political climate.
    • Troy Reeves, Co-Chair of the Oral History Association Campus Oral History Caucus, will discuss the origins of the recently created Caucus and the particular nature and concerns of college and university oral history initiatives.
