From Jason Baron and the Committee on Public Policy:
On behalf of SAA's Committee on Public Policy, I would like to give a "heads up" on public access to records from the first Trump Administration. Under the Presidential Records Act (PRA), presidential records generally become available to the public five years after the end of an administration, subject to certain restricted categories of records that can be withheld up to 12 years. See 44 U.S.C. § 2204. In other words, as of January 20, 2026, in accordance with the PRA the public has the right to request access to these records under the Freedom of Information Act, and may do so using the FOIA.gov portal or by going to trumplibrary.gov. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Jason R. Baron, Professor of the Practice at the University of Maryland, atjrbaron@umd.edu.
