The North Dakota State Archives welcomes applications for the following internships: Photo Archives Intern, Manuscript Collection Intern, and Reference Intern.
Photo Archives Intern
Anticipated duration: 6 months, 40 hours/week. Flexible!
Under the supervision of the Photo Archivist, the Photo Archives Intern will assist in the processing of the Lee Mohr Collection. The processing activities, including numbering, description, preservation, and organization, are necessary to ensure accessibility, intellectual control, and long-term preservation of the collection's large and valuable photographic record of Mandan, N.D. and the work of Lee Mohr and R. R. Lutz.

Manuscript Collection Intern
Anticipated duration: 3 months, 40 hours/week. Flexible!
Under the supervision of the Manuscript Archivist, the Manuscript Collection Intern will increase access to the State Archives Document and Genealogy holdings by updating collection records and digitizing the collections. Throughout this process, they will examine documents, conduct historical research, write historical sketches, enter data into databases, perform needed preservation actions, digitize all documents, and ingest them into the State Archives' content management and digital preservation systems. The processing activities undertaken in this project are necessary to ensure accessibility, intellectual control, and long-term preservation of an important part of the State Archives' manuscript holdings.

Reference Intern
Anticipated duration: 3 months, 40 hours/week. Flexible!
Under the supervision of the Head of Reference Services, the Reference Intern will assist at the Reference desk of the Orin G. Libby Memorial Reading Room, working with incoming patrons, responding to requests by phone and email, and providing access to collections. The Reference Intern will also write essays for the Prairie Public Radio program Dakota Datebook using State Archives resources; and may complete other duties, such as indexing, scanning, and compiling library guides for better collection access.

To be eligible for a North Dakota State Government Stipend Student Internship, a student:
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as a full-time student and working towards a degree in history, archives, library science, photography, or a closely related liberal arts or social science discipline; and
- Must be at least of sophomore standing by the beginning of the internship, and
- Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
