Focus on Collections: Arab American Heritage Month
As part of PLASC's commitment to further engagement with our members and institutions, we will be highlighting collections that pay homage to the "National Heritage Months".
April is recognized by the U.S. government and State Department as National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM), which celebrates the heritage, culture, and contributions of Arab Americans. Typically, we choose public libraries to highlight, but many of these collections are part of collaborative projects and/or housed in state and academic libraries due to the way that Arab American history collections are collected in the U.S. There are very few archival collections in public libraries that are available online for Arab American history, when compared with other people groups, which is something that public library archives should consider expanding in their collection efforts.
Enjoy!
