Jordan Jancosek (Brown University) reviews John Fleckner’s article, “Reaching Out: The Place of Records Surveys in Archival Practice,” from The Midwestern Archivist 2, no. 1 (1977). Jancosek writes, “While there have been literature and case studies on records surveys since Fleckner’s article, they are certainly not as robust as one might expect given the usefulness of records surveys for archival document management and practice.” She goes on to note that Fleckner’s assessment of the value and need for records surveys remains largely true, even decades later.
