The Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections and University Archives at Northwestern University welcomes applications for our current round of Grants for Visiting Researchers. Applications are due Friday, April 17, 2026. This year we are happy to offer three grants of up to $3,000 available for use between September1, 2026 through August 1, 2027 to reimburse expenses for transportation, accommodations, and meals for one or more on-site visits to Northwestern University Libraries in Evanston, IL.

Upon completion of the research, grant awardees will be required to submit a brief report summarizing the use of the collection(s) and how the visit benefited their research.

In addition to those offered by Special Collections and University Archives, our Distinctive Collections also offer grants for visiting researchers:

The grants are open to academic and independent researchers. We encourage applications by those working in traditional academic fields as well as those whose research is interdisciplinary, or oriented towards creative arts and practices. There are no restrictions as to the applicant's nationality or academic status. See the full list of eligibility guidelines and details on how to apply at the links for the specific grants.
