Please join us for a presentation from Dr. Charissa Threat, who is an Associate Professor of History at Chapman University. Her research focuses on the intersections of civil-military relations and race, gender and conflict and she published an award-winning book titled Nursing Civil Rights: Gender, Race and the US Army Nurse Corps, 1939 – 1969. For this coffee chat Dr. Threat will be talking about her work at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, where she found several collections of letters that have revealed new perspectives on African American’s experiences serving in World War II. She also has some interesting stories that she can relate about how the collections came to be located at the Schomburg Center.
