Introduction to the Marketplace of Ideas (Erin Lawrimore)
The Marketplace of Ideas is a fun and interactive way for archivists to discuss and exchange innovative ideas and practical approaches to many of the challenges faced in reference, access, and outreach. Multiple small breakout rooms will allow you to virtually travel and participate in conversations with colleagues. At 15-minute intervals, the marketplace vendors will repeat a short (2-3 minutes) overview of their topic, followed by a facilitated discussion. Attendees may move from vendor to vendor at any time.
The following vendors will be participating in the Marketplace of Ideas:
- HallowZines (Megan Reichelt and Amanda Menjivar) HallowZines is a yearly event hosted by George Mason University Libraries that combines archival material and spooky creativity by sharing the history of zines and teaching attendees to create their own using deaccessioned papers, books, photographs, and ephemera from our Special Collections and beyond.
- Meet the TPS Collective (Katie Banks and Matt Herbison) This session will briefly cover the TPS Collective website and the many offerings it has for anyone interested in teaching with primary sources.
- Building Archives at a New University (Ryder Kouba) This session discusses ways to build collections and connections at a new University Archives and Special Collections at a new university in China – Duke Kunshan University.
- Creating Dynamic and Engaging Events (Ella Padden and Maggie Dobson) Archivists at the University of Oregon have hosted zine making workshops in tandem with exhibit openings and are interested in hearing about ways that other institutions facilitate dynamic and engaging events.
- Meaningful Archival Internships (Maureen Weinman) This session seeks advice for establishing meaningful archival graduate assistantships and internships in an academic library setting.
- Co-Curation of Exhibits with Students (Jo Otremba) In this discussion, learn how the Purdue University Archives and Special Collections came together to develop an easily replicable exhibition curated by both student employees and archivists where we focused on hands-on learning experiences and organized an outreach event where students could share their reflections with community members.
- Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy Revision (Susan McElrath and Anna Franz) Join us to learn about the current revision work that is being done with SAA's Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy. You can learn more about the revision process, ask questions, express concerns, etc.
