Fellow archivists,
Please join the Committee on Ethics and Professional Conduct (CEPC) for our annual business meeting! We will start with some committee business, including reporting on activities and accomplishments of this past year, as well as introducing incoming committee members. The majority of the meeting will be a presentation by Caitlin Ramos and Samuel Edwards from the Massachusetts Archives:
Title: Restricted Information in Public Records: The Changing Landscape at the Massachusetts Archives
Overview: Two archivists on staff at the Massachusetts Archives provide an overview of their experiences working with restricted information within public records, before and after a significant change in the law regarding access to this type of information. Records from state institutions for mental health and developmental disability that were previously permanently sealed are now available if more than 75 years have passed since the creation of the record. Caitlin and Samuel explain the challenges and the rewards of dealing with requests of this nature.
