    Come lead an exciting and engaged Special Collections and University Archives department! Iowa State's Special Collections and University Archives has dynamic staff committed to documenting Iowa's history, enriching learning, and encouraging investigation by a diverse community of users. The archive's unique collections focus on agriculture and rural life, life sciences, engineering, and women in science and engineering, and includes records from Jack Trice, Warren H. Manning, Norman E. Borlaug, George Washington Carver along with university departments, staff, students, and alumni. The rare books collection includes 50,000 volumes, focusing on agriculture, science, and technology, including significant holdings of British agriculturalists, early herbals, natural history, theatre of machines, and a complete set of Diderot's Encyclopedie including all the plates and supplemental volumes.

     

    The Head will have the opportunity to collaboratively define and shape the newly formed Academic Services division strategic vision. They will have the opportunity, along with the staff of Special Collections and University Archives, to engage with faculty, students, staff and donors to develop, enhance and support SCUA programs.

     

    The Head reports to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Services and oversees a staff of seven professional and full-time archivists with direct supervision of four. Supports and develops staff to achieve excellence in their professional responsibilities, and provides guidance for promotion and career development. Manages collections materials budgets and foundation gift funds. In addition to leading the team of specialists, the candidate will also co-manage a newly refurbished space for increased processing, digitization and storage for special collection materials.

     

    This position is non-tenure-track and classified as pay grade PS810 in the P&S Salary Matrix
