The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC), a unit within the Appalachian State University Libraries in Boone, North Carolina, is seeking applicants for the newly created curatorial position of the Anne Belk Distinguished Fellow for Distinctive Collections.
This is a full-time (12 month), tenure-track position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Curate, identify, and collect rare books, printed materials, manuscripts, media, and born digital archives for Distinctive Collections by purchase and donation.
Oversee the continued development of secondary/non-rare collections supporting the Special Collections Research Center.
Assess collections, analyze user data, and consult colleagues to inform collection decisions.
Identify potential donors of materials related to collection areas, and cultivate and steward donor relationships.
Review, update, and maintain collection development policies for Distinctive Collections in consultation with the Coordinator.
Participate in the Libraries' instruction and information literacy program, with a focus on manuscripts, rare books, and archives. Apply professional best practices to instruction using special collections.
Provide research consultations and reference assistance.
Promote the collections and services of the Special Collections Research Center and University Libraries through special events, programs, and public relations activities.
Engage in an active program of scholarship and professional service as outlined in the University's Faculty Handbook and the Library Faculty Guidelines.
Other duties that align with the needs of the Special Collections Research Center and/or University Libraries.
The standard salary for an Associate Professor is $62,000.
The yearly salary for this position will include endowment payment in addition to the standard salary mentioned above. The endowment payment will be discussed during the job offer. Salary and rank are determined based on qualifications and experience.
