    The University of Louisville Libraries invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to serve as Special Collections Librarian/Edgar Rice Burroughs Collection Curator.

    The Special Collections Librarian/Edgar Rice Burroughs Collection Curator will participate in the reference, teaching and collections work of Archives and Special Collections (ASC), and the curatorial responsibilities of the Rare Books Department within ASC. This position also involves curating the world's largest institutional collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs materials. This is a new position and the individual appointed will have opportunity for collaborating in its development.

    Primary Responsibilities include

    • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support research in the university and community providing ASC collections and resources, including the Burroughs Collection, and helping staff the ASC reference desk
    • Participating in processing collections prioritized within ASC
    • Teaching classes and community groups engaged with ASC archival and rare book collections
    • Serving as Curator, Edgar Rice Burroughs Collection. These responsibilities include conducting archival appraisal, accessioning, re-housing, and processing of the Edgar Rice Burroughs Collection; developing and maintaining relationships within the Burroughs Community; seeking ways to integrate the Burroughs Collection into the university curriculum; holding responsibility for the permanent display of materials from the Burroughs Collection.

     

    This is an entry-level, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor with a 12-month annual contract. The minimum starting salary at the rank of instructor is $46,000 per year. Salary is negotiated at the time of offer based on the experience and achievements of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, an annual vacation of 22 working days plus paid University holidays. To support the scholarship, service, and other achievements necessary for promotion and tenure the University Libraries offers a mentorship program, extensive professional development opportunities, and funding for conferences and continuing education or certification. and support for professional development. Promotion and tenure require demonstration of scholarship and successfully satisfying other criteria.
