ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Experienced archivist to work with collections at the Special Collections Unit at Chicago Public Library's Harold Washington Library Center, part of the Archives and Special Collections Division. The Special Collections Unit focuses on Chicago history. Candidate is responsible for the appraisal, arrangement and description of archival collections. Has knowledge of EAD, DACS, MARC and other metadata standards. Is familiar with digital formats and issues related to born-digital content. May train, supervise or review archival work by other staff. Provides reference services to patrons, in person and via phone and email. Provides outreach and programming through curation of exhibits, hosting class visits, giving tours, writing blog posts, and more. Contributes to acquisition decisions. Project manages digitization and collection management projects. Communicates and collaborates with patrons, colleagues and donors. Uses library/archival technology such as CONTENTDM and Archives Space. Helps develop special collections policies, procedures and regulations. Is aware of conservation and preservation issues. Maintains professional development through participation at local, state or national level. Performs related duties as required. Seeking candidate with strong communication and organizational skills and a keen attention to detail who is dedicated to public service and can work creatively, collegially and effectively as part of a team and independently.
