Job Announcement: Head of Special Collections, Wesleyan University

  • 1.  Job Announcement: Head of Special Collections, Wesleyan University

    Posted Sep 20, 2023 04:50 PM

Wesleyan University is currently searching for a new Head of Special Collections.  We are looking for someone to oversee developing collaborative, sustainable approaches to managing a complex portfolio of Special Collections services, projects, and programs (our collection has over 45,000 volumes of rare books ranging from medieval manuscript codices and early printed books to over 1,000 artists' books). Additionally, they will work in an active program of outreach and instruction and oversee the growth of the collection with an eye on strengthening the department's focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in collections practices. They will work within a newly formed Unique Collections department where they'll get to work closely with other collections' managers that range from university archives, ethnographic collections, and world music collections.

Wesleyan University is a small liberal arts school located in Middletown, CT. The library is a wonderful place to work. We have a supportive culture among staff, and our students and faculty are a joy to work with. They're independent-minded, questioning, and devoted learners. If you know of someone with a background in rare books who is thinking about career options, this may be a path for them to consider. I would be happy to talk with anyone who wants to know more about the position or university.
