Hello all-
The White House recently signed a package of funding bills that included appropriations for programs that SAA advocates for, including the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS):
--NARA will receive $421 million-a $6 million decrease from FY 2025
--NHPRC will receive $5 million-a 50% cut from FY 2025 levels
--IMLS will receive $291million-a $3 million decrease from FY 2025
--NEH will receive $207 million-a funding level equal to FY 2025
The National Humanities Alliance has produced a table that compares funding for these programs across the past ten years.
In addition to base-level funding, Congress has directed the NHPRC to oversee $14.3 million for 23 specific projects across the United States.
While this isn't great, at least they didn't zero out all funding. Take care!
