Sometimes it takes a fellow archivist to recognize the value of an archival effort. Grants from the SAA Foundation's Catalyst Fund support groundbreaking archives projects. Collaborating with communities to preserve their histories, digitizing records to increase access, and exploring archival practices to enhance impacts are just a few of the many activities that need support but rarely have the resources to move forward.

As we approach the end of the year, we ask you to make a gift to the SAA Foundation's Catalyst Fund to burn down barriers to innovation and advancement in our field. Your support is crucial in helping us raise $75,000 to empower colleagues who are making change in our communities.

Such colleagues are Natalie Baur, Mayra Mena Múgica, and the team at El Colegio de México, grant recipients of the Catalyst Grant (formerly Strategic Growth Grant) project titled “Arrangement and Description of the Video TropicoSur Collection.”

The purpose of the project was to ensure the long-term preservation, accessibility, and intellectual organization of Carlos Martínez Suárez's Video TropicoSur Collection. It involved creating intellectual access through a finding aid and item-level cataloging, enabling researchers and the public to consult the collection via the library's digital repository. The project also aimed to document and make available invaluable firsthand footage of significant sociopolitical and cultural events in Mexican history, particularly related to the 1994 Zapatista uprising, while supporting academic research and safeguarding Martínez’s intellectual property. This project would not have been possible without the support of archivists like you.

Join us in supporting our colleagues by making a gift to the Catalyst Fund today. Together, we can create a more inclusive and innovative profession. Donate today
