Hello from the California History Section in the California State Library!
We wanted to let you know about our upcoming event in our free virtual speaker series:
- Thursday, November 13, 4:00-5:30PM - Toward a Decolonial Future: Klamath River Temporary Dams
The lower Klamath River Basin, home to the Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk people, is vitally important to the cultural and physical health of each tribe. Dr. Brittani Orona will focus on one little-explored aspect of the relationship between the three tribes and the Klamath River and its tributaries: temporary dams known as fish weirs. She will also reflect on fish weirs as decolonial future for the Hupa, Yurok, and Karuk people and how this symbiotic relationship may be established again after the permanent dam structures are gone.
