Yale Beinecke Library, in collaboration with Society of American Archivists (SAA), will be hosting the symposium, "Democracy, Civic Education, and the American Archive," on April 8-9, 2026, in New Haven Connecticut. The two-day event will explore some of the distinct challenges archives face in the current moment to serve the common good and maintain their critical role in upholding democratic governance and civic engagement as envisioned in the country's founding documents.
The event will feature conversations and panel discussions with
David Ferriero, former Archivist of the United States,
Brenda Gunn, SAA President-Elect and Associate University Librarian for Archives and Special Collections at the University of Virginia,
Robert Horton, Former Assistant Director for Collections and Archives, Smithsonian National Museum of American History and
