    Hello everyone,

This is a follow-up about the upcoming course the UCSB Library is planning to host in partnership with SAA. We are still seeking additional registrations.

The course, Copyright Law for Archivists: A Risk Assessment Approach, will be held in person at the library over two days (June 11–12). You do not need to be an SAA member to attend, and registration is available now!

At present, enrollment is below the minimum needed to run the course. We have only a couple of weeks left to reach the required number of participants, so the course may be canceled if registration does not increase!

In a world awash in AI, there's a different kind of intelligence you need to navigate the
twisted world of copyright – Archival Intelligence. By making copyright law approachable, this
workshop will enable you to apply Archival Intelligence to avoid the law's obvious and not so
    obvious traps.

In the workshop, you will learn how to understand the basics of the law–what it allows
and does not allow you to do; what is and is not controlled by copyright law; which safe harbors
can reduce liability; and what's needed to assess fair use. Mr. Bumble, in Dickens' Oliver Twist,
proclaimed "The law is an ass," but archivists still need to learn how to live with this law. The
workshop will help you understand and know how to work with copyright.

If you are interested, please consider registering soon!
