Does your repository have medical records in its holdings? Perhaps in ways you may not immediately think of – not just collections identified as medical, but also those of individuals, business, or organizations who may have included their own records (ex. x-rays, workmen's compensation, accident reports, medical ledgers, case files, evaluations within court documents). How do you provide access, privacy, and restrictions (if at all)? And if your institution is not covered by HIPAA, do you allow open access?
This year, the Committee on Ethics and Professional Conduct (CEPC) is focusing on access and privacy concerns and ethical considerations surrounding them. We are looking for people who are willing to participate in a community discussion surrounding access and privacy concerns regarding medical records in a variety of repositories. If you are interested in participating, or want more information, please reach out to Ashley Williams Clawson (awilliams@hagley.org).
