Call for Papers
The International Council on Archives Section on University and Research Institution Archives (ICA-SUV) is pleased to announce its annual conference for 2024.The conference, titled What Does Diversity Mean to You?, will be held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, 7-9 October, 2024. This will be an in-person conference.
This conference presents an opportunity for reflective discussion about many aspects of diversity work among its varied cultural and geographical contexts. The goal is to provide for individual and collective exploration of the commonalities and differences experienced by archivists and records professionals around the globe. This theme is inspired by the clear interest in such discussions voiced by participants during our 2023 What Does Diversity Mean to You? online conversations.
In these meetings, colleagues noted that professional conversations are important to furthering global and local understanding of diversity and its associated concepts. In the spirit of benefitting from listening and responding to different perspectives, the Section welcomes program proposals on the following topics relating to accessibility, diversity, equity, equality, inclusion, and justice:
- Exploring similarities and differences around the globe and their resulting opportunities and challenges
- Moving from merely embedding concepts to acting within organizational/archival operations and culture
- Caretaking and honoring successes and joys
- Relating practices and concepts to each other, (e. g. accessibility within inclusion)
- Supporting this work across our organizations, work groups and communities (e.g. what is the role of various workplace generations?)
- Meeting the workplace and professional associated challenges
- Envisaging our future local and global work
- Your additional ideas are very welcome
Papers and presentations formats:
- Lightning Talks: Rapid and concise presentations; 10 minutes long
- Papers: Research/scholarly papers; 20 minutes long; can be analytical, descriptive, or reflective
- Panel Discussion : Composed of 3 speakers, plus a facilitator, with varied perspectives discussing a similar topic; indicate length of time requested
