  • 1.  Call for blog posts: New SAA Committee on Ethics and Professional Conduct blog

    Posted May 31, 2024 02:52 PM

The SAA Committee on Ethics and Professional Conduct (CEPC) seeks submissions for a new blog engaging with the principles set forth in the current SAA Core Values and Code of Ethics. The goal is to develop a series of writings that address archival ethics in actionable, approachable language so that the resulting work can be used both as pedagogical tools and as practical resources in the workplace.

Suggested length is 500 to 1,500 words. Blog posts should address one or more of the areas covered by the SAA Core Values and Code of Ethics, and can take a variety of formats. Blog posts may (but are not limited to):

    • Present a case study

    • Address ongoing or unresolved issues in archival ethics

    • Advocate for an ethical perspective or action

    • Interview another archivist on applications of archival ethics

    • Respond to archival ethical dilemmas in the news or in media (including fiction!)

To submit a blog post, please use the SUBMISSION FORM. All submissions will be reviewed by a member of CEPC and may be edited in collaboration with the author before publication. Accepted submissions will be electronically distributed on the CEPC blog under a Creative Commons license, with copyright retained by the authors.

Posts by students and new archival professionals are encouraged. If you have an idea for a blog post and would like feedback prior to writing it, feel free to contact CEPC Case Studies subcommittee member Celeste Brewer at clb2195@columbia.edu
