Sharpen your reference skills this Fall by learning about SNAC! Social Networks and Archival Contexts (SNAC) is a free, online resource that helps users discover primary source documents, such as photographs, letters, and sound recordings, from all over the world and connections across time and place. SNAC records are authority records and are linked internally by context, and can be linked to other authority records, finding aids and resources all over the world.

This series is part of a Mellon funded grant in which we revamped our SNACSchool program to condense the content and focus on the core objective: Learning how to use SNAC effectively! We are offering 3 classes this Summer as part of our Summer-Fall semester:

• Research and Reference (Virtual) | September 23, 1-3 pm EST Register

Learn how to use SNAC for your own research or upskill your reference abilities with a new platform!

• Create and Edit (Virtual) | October 14, 1-5 pm EST Register

Learn how to create and edit SNAC records and participate in our cooperative network!

• Merging Entities and Merge-a-thon (Virtual) | November 12, 1-5 pm EST Register

Attendees have the option to attend just the "Merging Entities" SNACSchool session from 12-1 pm OR for the Merge-a-thon from 2-5 pm OR both! Participants in the Merge-a-thon must complete Create and Edit and the Merge Training sessions in order to participate fully. • Technical Workshop (Virtual) | December 14 , 2:30-4 pm EST Register

Topic TBD! Previous tech workshops have centered on using OpenRefine and ArchivesSpace with SNAC, and we are leaning towards a session that shows how SNAC and plug-ins can be used to extract data from SNAC as well with a discussion on more linked open data-related functionality. Interested parties are welcome to register while we develop the full program and we will be sure to share those details with all registered so they can make their final decisions.
